Get Ready – 2013 is Your Year to Lose Weight
Are you ready to lose weight and get in shape in 2013? The only way to be ready is to accept the realities of weight loss success. There are shortcuts, like supplements, but when it comes down to it, it’s all about the basics.
The thing to remember is that your weight loss results are your weight loss results, and yours alone. Essentially, don’t compare yourself to others and don’t beat yourself up if you don’t see results right away.
Just interested in learning how to lose a few pounds? That’s fine! All that we ask is that you are open to other forms of healthy transformation.
So, you’ve been as frustrated as ever to get on with life without extra baggage? Alright then, let’s get down to the basics of losing weight and keeping it off.
Can I Get in Shape Really Fast?
Here’s what most weight loss sites won’t tell you about losing weight; it is very hard to lose weight really fast. Obviously, there are the good guys out there like WebMD and other big name health information providers, but most other weight loss sites and guides make burning fat out to be something that is easy to pull off. Do just a little bit of browsing and you’ll find that most websites offer promises of losing weight really fast, via methods that make it seem like child’s play.
However, while the name of our fitness site happens to be “How to Lose Weight Really Fast“, you should know that the weight loss plan you are about to read, concerning your need to get in shape for 2013, is primarily based around reality. We know that in most cases, losing weight and burning fat quickly takes a lot of effort.
Yes, you can get in shape quite quickly in 2013…but…you’ll need to be willing to go the extra mile. If you want results really fast, then you need to move really fast.
Weight Loss Pills vs. Exercise
Most people go for weight loss and diet pills when they want to get in shape really fast. Most people also have unrealistic time frames for losing 10, 20, or 30 pounds. Do you really think a weight loss pill will allow you to lose weight incredibly fast? The answer is no.
Here’s the deal on weight loss pills; some pills are legit and can help you lose weight faster, but there is no pill out there that will allow you to lose 20 pounds in a week’s time. If these are the kinds of expectations you have for your New Year’s weight loss resolution, it’s time to reshape the way you think.
If you are desperate and want to burn off the fat fast, exercise like there is no tomorrow now and look for a slimming supplement later. Intense cardio will beat out the most popular dieting pill any day. Remember, the rule of thumb for quick weight loss in 2013 is exercise first and supplements later. Get a home gym, go walking, jog, sign up for a local gym…do anything that relates to exercise.
You will see results if you are exercising at least a few times a week (the more intense, the better). After all, the formula to weight loss is burning more calories then you are eating. A weight loss supplement may help you burn off a few more calories or suppress your appetite, but exercising will always burn more calories (if you put forth the effort).
Don’t Diet in 2013
You’d be surprised at what you can accomplish weight loss wise solely through altering the way you eat. Transforming your eating habits for the better can and will help you lose some weight. If done right, you can lose weight this way without exercising (this doesn’t mean you should ignore exercise).
Starving Yourself is NOT the Way to Go
You need to think about the foods you are eating on a regular basis and analyze how these foods are affecting your current weight. Here a some of the essentials that you need to ask yourself:
- Do you snack a lot throughout the day?
- Do you eat a lot of frozen foods such as Hot Pockets or microwavable pizzas?
- Do you eat 3 equally portioned meals throughout the day? Are they spaced out out?
- Do you eat at the same times every day?
- Do you regularly eat fast food such as Burger King or McDonalds?
- How much protein, carbs, and fats are you consuming on a daily basis?
- Do you binge on food?
- Do you snack late at night?
The list goes on and on but you can see how taking a look at your eating habits tells a lot about your current weight. Actions build upon actions and the more unhealthy eating you are doing, the stronger the foundation is for an overweight you. You can always fix your weight issues but you need to first break the negative cycles and create new, healthy ones for yourself.
What’s the secret to successful dieting? If you’re struggling with your eating habits, consider trying out a high protein diet. It’s been proven to help many cut back on eating unhealthy foods and lose weight.
A lot of these questions have to do with unhealthy eating habits that the vast majority of us our guilty of. A lot of overweight people tend to snack on foods high in sodium and fat, eat fast food regularly, eat on inconsistent terms, go for quick fixes like frozen foods, and don’t portion food types correctly. This is the kind of stuff you don’t want to do. These are the habits you must change, and when you do you will start seeing results. Think about it, if you were willing to cut out some of your unhealthy eating habits, this alone could help you lose some pounds.
There’s a lot of controversy regarding the “right” way to eat to lose weight but there are also general guidelines that apply to everyone. There are so many diets out there and it’s hard to gauge which one is right for you. A lot of people jump from one diet plan to the next without any real weight loss results. It’s the presence of so many options and hyped up techniques that makes dieting difficult when losing weight.
One of the main reasons why finding the healthiest diet for losing weight is so difficult is because we are all unique in terms of what provides the best results. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that we all respond to foods differently and as a result, we respond to diets differently. Basically, a low carb diet isn’t going to allow just anyone to lose 10 pounds. In most cases, it takes more than following the diet herd.
The Best Diet for YOU
A doctor by the name of Joseph Mercola builds upon the concept of choosing a diet that works best for you, the unique individual, with his theory called “Nutritional Typing“. Essentially he believes that we all have our own “best” healthy way to eat. Take a look at the video below to get a taste of what the nutritional typing concept is all about.
Dr. Mercola gives a good overview of what it generally takes in order to maintain optimal health via the foods you eat and the things you do. It’s also very interesting to see a real doctor’s take on a concept such as this.
Fine Tune Your Diet for 2012
The first things you need to focus on is getting a handle on the types of foods you’re eating. You want to be eating “real” foods and organic foods as much as possible. You can’t go wrong be sticking to foods that aren’t processed and have additives. The closer the product is to the real thing, the better. For example, going to the deli for your meats is better than most packaged meats. Keeping yourself away from processed foods, fast foods, frozen foods, and so forth, is a must. Looking for a list of the healthiest foods? Look here for all kinds of great choices to pick from when shopping.
Alright, so you’ve got a mental note. Where to start in terms of actual dieting? The federal government has replaced the food pyramid with a much simpler concept called My Plate. Basically, the same rules apply as they did with the old school pyramid. When shooting for optimal health you want at least half of your meal to consist of fruits and vegetables, 2 to 3 cups of dairy per day (low fat milk is always a better choice for weight loss), about half of your meal should be grains with half of grain containing foods being whole grains, and the rest of your meal should consist of healthy protein sources.
And specific diet plans for losing weight? As mentioned above, we are all unique in terms of how different foods affect our body and overall well being. With that said, there are popular diet plans that work for a lot of people. You may already know of some of these plans such as the low carb diet, high protein diet, Atkins diet, gluten free diet, and so on. There are a lot of diets. The best thing you could do is talk to a nutritionist and evaluate which the best diet is for you but we’re going to be focusing on the high protein diet here.
Studies have shown that people who increase their daily intake of protein experience positive side effects such as weight reduction, a lower caloric intake, and a less food cravings. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that these kinds of benefits were obtained when calories from fat were reduced to 20% of overall caloric intake, calories from protein were increased to 30%, and carbs accounted for 50% of calories. When participants followed this diet their overall caloric intake was reduced by 441 calories. Experts say that if you want to use protein as a means to lose weight then you should shoot for getting 120 grams of protein per day.
Overall, high quality protein is very healthy for the human body and trialing a high protein diet makes sense if you’re trying to lose weight via dieting, especially if you are including cardiovascular exercise or resistance training. Many people see excellent results in terms of a reduction in fat when using the high protein diet/exercise combo. I can attest to this from personal experience. I use whey protein supplements as an aid to resistance training and I’ve noticed that ingesting protein makes me feel full longer, gives me more energy, and keeps cravings for unhealthy foods at bay.
I would highly recommend trying out a high protein diet if you’re hesitant as to which type of diet to choose. It’s worked for many people and I’ve experienced many health benefits as well, especially when using high quality whey protein supplements.
