While being obese is obviously unhealthy as is this could present a whole new problem to the many obese children dealing with health issues. Keep on reading to find out more about why children could be risking thyroid damage.
Dr. Giorgio Radetti of the Regional Hospital of Bolzano and his colleagues have said that children that are obese could be causing inflammation to their thyroids. And this inflammation could in turn be harming the children’s thyroid resulting in many more health issues. The thyroid is responsible for secreting hormones which control metabolism and other important functions which means that damage to the thyroid could cause some nasty side effects for obese children.
How did these scientists come to this conclusion? Dr. Giorgio Radetti and his team evaluated 186 obese and overweight children for 3 years and tested their thyroid hormone and antibody levels. And after evaluating the results the scientists came to the conclusion that the obese children showed a general trend of damage to the thyroid.
